Have you ever wanted to help at camp with the rifle or shotgun ranges, but weren’t sure what to do or how to help?
The SELA Council Shooting Sports Committee will present a National Rifle Association (NRA) Range Safety Officer Training Course at the Salmen Scout Reservation on Saturday, October 8th from 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
The NRA Range Safety Officer course teaches the basic duties of a Range Safety Officer. It provides a thorough introduction to: the role of Range Safety Officers (RSOs); range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range safety briefings; range inspections and rules; emergency procedures; and how clear firearm stoppages and correct malfunctions.
Pre-registration for the class is required. The class will run from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The fee for the class is $20.00. (Lunch will be provided.)
The course is open to any registered Scouter, 21 years of age or older. There is a limit of 12 participants in the course.
Registration is a two part process, you must complete both parts:
- Fees (course materials) are payable to the Southeast Louisiana Council, BSA. Click below to register online.
- To register with the NRA go to NRAInstructors.org. Select “Find a Course”. Scroll down to SAFETY, select “NRA Basic Range Safety Officer” course. Go to SEARCH and click BSA only and enter 70001 for the Zip code, and hit SEARCH. This will take you to the course information page. Select Click for Details. This will take you to the Course Registration page. Enter the requested information and hit REGISTER.
There are additional credentialing fees payable to the NRA following successful completion of the course. If you are not a current NRA member, please join before the course. The credentialing fees are much less for NRA members.
