Who Can Earn This Award? Presented by the National Court of Honor on behalf of councils.
How To Get the Award: Anyone may nominate any deserving registered Scouter to the council, which selects recipients for the following year. Each council may process their own annual allotment of Silver Beaver awards and shall send a list of Silver Beaver awards and shall send a list of Silver Beaver recipients presented each calendar year to the National Court of Honor no later than January 31 of the following year.
Silver Pelican - Youth Award
THE PURPOSE OF THE AWARD: “Awarded since 1929, the Silver Pelican Award is presented annually by the Times Picayune by the ScoutsBSA Scout who, in the opinion of the Southeast Louisiana Council, has contributed most to the advancement of Scouting (ScoutsBSA and/or Cub Scouting) in the Southeast Louisiana Council…”
While all nominations are accepted for Scouts who meet the criteria, being under the age of 18 at the time of selection, it is highly discouraged for parents to nominate thair child for this award. Nominations are often times best received, and complete a clearer picture, if the nominator is an individual who has worked with the applicant on numerous occasions in Scouting. These people often times know the young person's true charachter when no one is watching.
Young American Nomination Form 2024
First presented in 1968, the award is given to a student age 19 through 25 to highlight publicly the importance of their excellent achievements and service to their community, state and nation. The local council office typically extends the application process in September to appropriate council units and community youth-serving organizations, which then submit nominations on behalf of their young adult constituents. Nominees may or may not be participants in Exploring/Learning for Life or members of the BSA.
