Several Scouts have signed up to walk in the Poseidon Parade in Slidell (Saturday 31 Jan 2025), but only 4 Boy Scouts and 6 Active Cub Scouts... we need a bigger Scout presence in the parade. Even if your UNIT cannot attend as a group, please pass this info to all your parents and invite them to bring their scout(s) to join us as individuals. This activity is for ALL levels of Scouting (Cubs, Scouts, Venture, Ships, Explorers... and even Girl Scouts).
- Uniform will be Class A (but be ready for Cold weather) for the Scouts.
- Adults should wear a Class A uniform if they have one, but a Bright Green T-Shirt otherwise.
- Non-Scout youth should wear a Bright Green T-Shirt.
- Everyone should have a Flash light or Lantern since this is a night time parade.
My troop will be pushing 55gal barrels to collect Aluminum Cans; your scouts are invited to assist. Any scout that helps can count the time as Conservation Service hours. You can also bring throws for your scout to toss, Wave at the Crowd and smile, or whatever. I would suggest that parents pull a wagon so that their tired scout can ride it for the last mile (or so) (especially at the Cub Scout level).
The parade will start at Salmen High school, follow Hwy 11 to Gause Blvd, then down to the Hobby Lobby. That's a 4.5 to 5 mile hike. The first float gets on the parade route at 6pm... based on previous Slidell Parades I have been involved in, it will probably take an hour for our group to get on the parade route after it starts, but we will need to be lined up by 5pm and I'll need to check in by 3pm. (call me to find out where I am.) I expect the parade to last 4 hours.
We will have a chase vehicle to carry water and supplies... along with a trailer to carry full/empty barrels. If you have a Hand Cart (Dolly), please bring it (mark your name on it).
We will need someone drive the chase vehicle and a way to get from the end of the parade back to the beginning where vehicles are parked.
You have my number and my email if you have a question.
Hope to see you there.
Yours in Scouting,
Kenneth Tillman - Troop 321, Scoutmaster and Pack 363, Cubmaster
